To be fair, there are a few semi dangerous places in Tokyo, but that's mostly the red light district areas. You might lose some money but getting your ass kicked is not as likely. That and you kinda gotta seek those areas out and not know what you're doing. Even the Yakuza frown upon beating and robbing tourists most of the time, so it would definitely be unusual.

And the famous vice districts like Kabukicho have been extensively Giuliani'd in recent years. You have to go seriously bull-in-a-china-shop crazy to get in that kind of trouble in Japan.

since he's wearing the same t-shirt in the beating pic as he was in the bar pics with the morrocan couple while chilling with sergio it's pretty safe to say he was out late and probably blackout drunk and either mouthed off to some dude's girl, or just been himself (ie: loud, obnoxious, and stupid) and like most places when a loud obnoxious fat outsider is acting like a retard, he gets treated like one. he's obviously a very confrontational person without alcohol (chris chan stream argument) and he's a angry drunk (gunt in general).
