Based on hearsay on Reddit of all places, the DNS stuff is just secondary. Facebook yeeted their backbone router infrastructure and withdrew all of their BGP routes. If true, it will take a while to bring back up because Facebook needs to get the right people to physically access the router infrastructure and reconfigure it again. Then it will take a while to propagate the routes so the rest of us can actually reach their networks.
